Still Just Another Night, Another Day

After the Toastmaster meeting last night, few of us went to Cheezbox and stayed there till they closed. That was past midnight. Apart from the great company and new connections of similar minds, the unceasing rain could have contributed to our prolonging of good nights and goodbyes.
But the rain already began few hours before that (after I’ve done my speech, so it’s almost as if the sky was crying for me – or so I’d like to think).
Terence and I live quite close together so we had each other to share the ordeal. The Bandar area was totally flooded. Many of those who share this night life stopped their cars on the side of the road. Only a brave and courageous, or silly, few risked their cars and drove them into the roads that were now river beds.
It was a rare and chaotic sight. Scary too. Terence’s 4-wheel-drive was more suited to the situation as it was higher off the ground so we communicated through our mobile phones as I became his eyes to make sure water would not invade the inside of his car. I then follow his path with my lower Benz. We attempted many roads around the town area but all were flooded. But at last, we figured we wanted to get home more than we wanted to be on the road so – and after seeing a couple of saloon cars sped by – we went for it.
I had my camera with me as I wanted to record my speech, but amidst the chaos and concern, I have forgotten to use it until I turned into Kianggeh. By then I didn’t want to turn back as it was close to 1am, but I still managed to stop for this – the hill leading into Subok.
This morning, government workers were scattered around the town area as they went about fixing whatever needed fixing. The roads were all sandy. But as usual, everything will and have gone back to normal. It was just another night, another day.
