Back Home?

Today will be our first day in Athens. We got in last night midnight, and so far the impression i got is that Athens is hideously dirty. Trash are littered on the pavement or gathered around a poor tree in bulk. What is going on?
On our way from the airport to the city, the way the streets are in relation to the buildings brought me back to riding the tram in manchester or sheffield. i know it’s silly but there’s this kindred feeling going on. I’ve been away for too long. Plus the first thing that greeted me was the rain. I felt like I’m back home.
Athens isn’t what i was expecting at all. i thought it would look older with ruins here and there, like Rome. Instead, it’s very much like Manchester so far. But that’s just my expectations.
