Lock Down
By Delrondu | Rambles24 Sep 2008
After the game was installed and patched (took another 4 hours), and hunting down online for the newer version of DirectX, it was time to log in.
Creating a character was just as much fun. The names I have in mind were of course uniquely original that nobody else in the whole WAR community is using.
But after logging in the first character, I found out that everything was very choppy and stuttered to no end, no matter what I tried. And after the first ten minutes, I got kicked back to desktop as the game crashes. Tried a second time, 5 minutes were all it took.
Next thing I could think of doing was to restart the computer. It was noticeably better so I logged into my first Scenario battle. But the lag was so bad that I was ineffective. And upon battle completion, immediately I got kicked back to desktop again.
Frustrated, I decided to copy the folder to my external drive and transferred the whole game to my Dell XPS 1530. From there on, everything was smooth sailing. My first WAR experience and it was great.
But the fun didn’t last, sadly. Without the CD Key, there’s no way to continue playing as I am now locked out of the game as the Head Start period ended.
This is why I was making a fuss last week, so that I won’t encounter this problem and ETA told me it was supposed to arrive last weekend. But instead, the Standard Edition arrived and they asked if I wanted to purchase that instead and get a refund on CE.
And risk my characters in limbo? No thanks.
Tried contacting EA as well as EA Singapore online. EA Singapore can’t do anything while EA is taking their sweet time in coming back to me.
It has been 5 days since I first created this post and 4 days of imposed lock down. I’m going to call ETA later and see if their distributor (supposedly EA Singapore but they seemed to be saying otherwise) have sent the shipment out yet. Otherwise I’ll just ask someone in Singapore to collect for me and pass me the CD key.
I wonder why I’ve never thought of this before.
