The Unfriendly Office

I was at a “farewell” (but not quite a farewell as he’s coming back) cum “birthday” (but not quite a birthday as it’s not his birthday) office party just now and the man of the hour was the boss of that office.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but usually if it’s a surprise, everyone in the room would all cheer a “surprise” or “happy birthday” when the surprisee walked in. But no, not this one. You could almost hear the cricket when he walked in and nobody said anything.

Either nobody wanted to be a suck-up or nobody was a “friend”, or people in this office are just weird. The guy had to initiate conversation and tried to include everyone there. It was just a really bad atmosphere even though nobody intended for it to be.

And I do think it’s the latter because a lot of people there just keep to themselves. Office politics? Office rituals? It’s just a very different and “unfriendly” environment in this office than those that I’ve been to.

Either that, or I’m being my “too-sensitive” self again.

And yes I do realise I’ve used a lot of inverted commas in this post.
