Season Seven Surprise

What a surprise that David Cook has took the crown on this seventh season of American Idol. Right from the start of the season, David Archuleta has been the “preferred” winner by fans all around.

Even the people I’ve talked to thought that, even when he wasn’t their first choice, he would still win. And this is due to the American voting public who always seemed to go for their “favourite” instead of the most talented. This even prompted Simon Cowell to say to Cook in the middle of the competition that if the Idol contest was more about talent instead of a popularity contest, Cook could win the whole thing. But David Archuleta can do no wrong, or so everyone thought.

So for once, justice is served on American Idol; although Carly Smithson and Michael Johns were out well before their time. But on a night that received over 90 million votes, first ever on AI, Cook won by a landslide of 12 million votes.

And this time, I really liked the winning song’s (Time Of My Life… a few lines are still too cheesy) composition ever since Kelly Clarkson’s A Moment Like This back in season 1. And with Cook’s vocals, he took it to another level. A much deserved winner.
