New Seven Wonders
By Delrondu | Info16 Jul 2007
How could I have forgotten. The day this site was created was also the day the world selected it’s Seven Wonders of the World (07.07.07.). Just remembered it today when my mom was asking about it.
And to my utmost surprise, I’m only familiar with 3 of them by name or reputation. No more Leaning Tower of Pisa, no more the Egyptian Pyramid, the Eiffel Tower no longer qualifies, nor does the Statue of Liberty, not even the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and suddenly the Angkor Wat of Cambodia isn’t a priority anymore. But then again, since when do we conform to popularity.
One of the 14 finalists, however, was Stonehenge. Now that should NOT be there. For all we know, it’s just some huge baby dinosaurs in some cosmic coincidence playing with some pebbles.
But Unesco has distanced itself away from this list, quoting “There is no comparison between Mr Weber’s mediatised campaign and the scientific and educational work resulting from the inscription of sites on Unesco’s World Heritage List.” Archaeologists have also expressed concern on the effects of increased tourism on these sites.
After much debate and controversy over it’s criteria, the new Seven Wonders (official site here) are, in no particular order of cours, clockwise from top left:
Brazil’s Christ Redeemer, Peru’s Machu Picchu, India’s Taj Mahal, China’s Great Wall, Jordan’s Petra, Mexico’s Chichen Itza and Italy’s Roman Colosseum.

Dude, I have FINALLY decided to visit your blog following persistent promptings by His.
Well, I feel obliged to inform you that the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, and Cambodia’s Angkor Wat were never part of the original 7 Wonder of the World – besides Angkor Wat, the others aren’t even wonders to start off with. In fact, if you only know 3 of the new 7WW, then you would be even less familiar with the original 7WW.
I’m curious to know, how persistent were his promptings?
My friend, you are sorely mistaken, those mentioned are all wonders of the world at some point or in other wonder categories. Especially Pisa, which also belonged in the same wonder category as Stonehenge and Great Wall.
If by original you mean the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, then Ankor Wat was never in that list as well. But the Hanging Garden was. None of the new wonders were ever in the original so I dont know what you’re on about.
You know what we should target? The 7 Underwater Wonders of the World. That would be amazing.
No you fool, 7 Wonders of the World was a list originally compiled by some ancient nut. Other than these, other so-called 7WWs were never officially listed, and you will always get more than 7 if you ever counted them because people have always updated them – until now. That was why the new list came out – to get another 7 official WW.
But after saying that, I’d say the new 7WW is incomplete, I’m not on it.
Oh, and there are no flights on 5th October, so you’ll need to tell me your best flight details so I can arrange the best dates for our search of your 7UWW – prompt response required.
